Burger King is reviving a long-absent menu item: the Cheddar Bacon Whopper will return to restaurants nationwide starting March 10, 2026, for a limited time. It marks the first time the sandwich has been available since 2009.
The Cheddar Bacon Whopper features a quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty topped with two slices of melted cheddar cheese, thick-cut smoked bacon, fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles, sliced onions, ketchup, and mayonnaise on a toasted sesame seed bun. The chain is positioning the return as a direct response to customer demand.

Why It’s Back After 15 Years
Burger King has periodically tested and rotated limited-time offerings, but the Cheddar Bacon Whopper had not been part of that rotation since it was discontinued 15 years ago. In recent years, the chain has focused on simplifying its menu and improving drive-thru speed, which led to the removal of several items. However, persistent requests from fans on social media and through customer feedback surveys prompted the company to reconsider.
“We heard our guests loud and clear,” a Burger King spokesperson said in a statement. “The Cheddar Bacon Whopper has been one of the most requested items to return, and we’re excited to bring it back for a limited engagement.”

The move mirrors a broader industry trend of fast-food chains leaning into nostalgia to drive traffic. Restaurant Business has noted that limited-time offers tied to discontinued or retro menu items often generate significant social media buzz and short-term sales lifts.
Availability and Pricing
The sandwich will be available at participating Burger King locations across the United States starting March 10. The company has not announced an exact end date, but the item is classified as a limited-time offer. Pricing will vary by location, though early reports from franchise operators suggest a suggested retail price of approximately $6.99 for the sandwich alone.
Burger King is also offering a Cheddar Bacon Whopper Meal, which includes the sandwich, a medium order of fries, and a medium drink, priced around $9.49.
What This Means for the Chain
The return comes as Burger King works to reverse a period of uneven sales. Parent company Restaurant Brands International reported that U.S. same-store sales for Burger King declined 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to its latest earnings release. The chain has been investing in menu simplification, kitchen upgrades, and marketing campaigns centered on core products.
Bringing back a cult-favorite item is a relatively low-cost way to generate excitement without adding permanent complexity to the kitchen. The Cheddar Bacon Whopper uses existing ingredients already stocked at most locations — cheddar cheese, bacon, and standard Whopper components — meaning franchisees can participate without significant supply chain changes.
For customers who have been waiting since 2009, the return is a rare chance to revisit a flavor that has taken on near-legendary status among Burger King enthusiasts. Whether the limited run leads to a permanent spot on the menu will likely depend on how many of those fans show up in the coming weeks.
